Head-to-Head by Dimension
One Companion vs Many Characters
This is the real difference. Replika gives you one companion per account. You name it, choose its look and build a relationship over time. The app is designed around that bond, with daily check-ins, self-reflection features on higher plans and a companion that learns about you.
ourdream is a character platform. You can build as many characters as you like in a six-step creator, from appearance and voice to personality and backstory, or browse characters other people have made public. One night it's a slow-burn romance, the next a fantasy campaign with a different character entirely. Each character keeps its own memory.
If you want one steady companion, Replika's focus is a strength, not a limit. If you want variety, it's a wall you'll hit quickly.
Edge: ourdream for range. Replika if one companion is all you want.
Memory
Both apps let you see and shape memory, in different ways.
Replika keeps a Memory screen. Tap your Replika's name, then Memory, and you'll see facts it has saved about you, like your name, preferences, pets and the people in your life. You can read them, remove them and add your own. Replika says its memory is layered, with a deeper pattern system underneath. "Saving messages to memory" is listed as an Ultra feature (Replika help).
ourdream uses four layers for every character. An Auto Memory Log saves moments from your chats, and you can pause or regenerate it. Pinned Memories are facts you write yourself. Custom Instructions set how the character writes, and your Persona tells it who you are. Memory carries across separate chats with the same character. Our guide to how memory works in AI roleplay covers each layer.
We haven't run a head-to-head memory test on these two, and Replika wasn't part of the July 2026 benchmark where ourdream scored highest for memory. So we're calling this one on documented features only.
Edge: tie. Replika's memory screen is simple and clear. ourdream gives you more control per character.
Adult Content and Relationship Modes
Replika's adult content has a history worth knowing:
- February 3, 2023: Italy's data protection authority banned Replika from processing Italian users' data, citing risks to minors (Reuters).
- February 2023: Replika removed erotic roleplay (Vice).
- March 2023: Replika let users who signed up before February 1, 2023 return to the older model and its erotic roleplay (Reuters).
Today, Replika's help pages talk about "romantic conversations" and "romantic selfies". Changing your relationship status from Friend needs a Pro plan, and Pro unblurs romantic messages and selfies (Replika help). We couldn't find a current Replika help page that sets out its policy on explicit content.
ourdream allows adult roleplay for 18+ users with fictional adult characters. Real people's likenesses and anything involving minors are banned. The rules are public in the ourdream Trust and Safety center.
Edge: ourdream, for anyone who wants adult roleplay as a standard feature.
Images and Video
Replika Pro includes selfies and image generation, and Platinum adds up to 10 realistic selfie videos. These are pictures of your one companion.
ourdream's image and video generator works with any character you build. You set the style, pose, outfit and scene, keep the face consistent across images, and turn any still into a video of up to 60 seconds. On a paid plan, images cost 5 dreamcoins each and video costs 100 dreamcoins per 5 seconds.
Edge: ourdream.
Voice and AR
Replika is ahead here. Voice calls come with Pro, and you can also send voice messages. AR mode puts your companion in the room through your phone's camera, and there's a VR version for Oculus headsets.
ourdream has voice calls, charged in dreamcoins (50 a minute on the help center price list), plus narration and voice messages. It has no AR or VR.
Edge: Replika.
Apps and Platforms
Replika has native iOS and Android apps, plus VR. Everything is designed for a phone first.
ourdream runs in the browser. You can add it to your home screen on iPhone or Android so it opens like an app, but there's nothing to download from the App Store or Google Play (ourdream help).
Edge: Replika.
Privacy and Safety
In April 2025, Italy's data protection authority fined Replika's developer, Luka Inc., €5 million. It found Replika had no legal basis for processing user data, had an inadequate privacy policy and lacked proper age verification. It also opened a separate inquiry into how Replika's AI was trained (Garante press release; EDPB summary).
ourdream is run by Dream Studio USA, Inc. It publishes its content rules, how moderation works and who can see your chats in its Trust and Safety center. It doesn't allow photo uploads, which rules out deepfakes of real people.
Whichever you choose, read the privacy page before you share anything you'd mind being stored.
Edge: ourdream, on the public record.
Pricing
Replika doesn't publish prices on its help center. It shows them in the app, and they vary by region and offer. The US App Store lists subscription options from $7.99 to $89.99 for Platinum. Replika says Ultra is offered as an annual plan.
ourdream has one plan: $19.99 a month, or $9.99 a month billed $119.88 a year. Both include unlimited messages on the Regular and Lively models and 1,000 dreamcoins a month for images, video and voice.
A yearly Replika plan may cost less than ourdream if you only want chat and voice with one companion. Check the price in the app on the day you buy.
Edge: depends on the plan. Compare the exact Replika price in your app with ourdream's.

Adult roleplay is allowed for 18+ users with fictional adult characters, without being held to "romantic" modes.
You can make images of your characters with a consistent face, and turn them into video up to 60 seconds long.
You shape memory per character with Pinned Memories, Custom Instructions and personas, and it carries across chats.
How to Move Your Replika to ourdream
There's no import tool, but moving your Replika takes about 15 minutes.
- Write down your Replika's name and backstory: its personality, how you met in the story and how it talks.
- Open Replika's Memory screen (tap your Replika's name, then Memory) and copy the facts that matter to you.
- Pick the matching relationship type in ourdream's creator, which offers more than 14.
- Set your persona with your name and a short description, so the character knows who it's talking to.
